One or the oldest programs for youth offered at Friars, the Ron Walker Youth sports Program, is designed to enhance the lives of boys and girls though organized athletics.  Friars Youth Sports involve over 300 children in the Greater Cincinnati area each year grades K-8, offering a complete year-round schedule of sports and activities to help build healthy bodies, minds and spirits.

The kids in the Friars Club youth programs work together for a common cause in a fun learning environment with an emphasis on good sportsmanship, leadership, teamwork and good people skills.  Friars Programs help to develop good self-esteem and self-discipline while reinforcing positive behavior and addressing nutritional needs.

Friars program is unique because of it’s “melting pot” atmosphere, drawing kids from varied socioeconomic backgrounds and giving them the opportunity to intermingle, socialize, learn the critical skill of teamwork and respect for others.

BASEBALL

Friars Club offers baseball teams for boys and girls.  There is T-Ball for ages 5 & 6 and D- Ball for ages 7-9 and C-Ball for ages 9-11.  The season begins in mid April and runs through July.  Practices are twice a week at a local ball field.  Games are on Saturday.  Friars Club baseball program participates in Cincinnati Knothole.

Fee is $75 to play and $40 uniform fee.

Sign Ups are February 18, 2006 at 8am.

AAU BASKETBALL

Friars offers Armature Athletic Union Basketball.  The elite player at a highly competitive level train for the State Tournament in order to qualify for the National Championship competition held in Disney World.  Most divisions must finish first or second in state competition to qualify for  Nationals.  These teams are all try out teams.  We have AAU teams for Boys and Girls ages 8-14.  Teams practice at least twice a week for 2 hours and play in various Spring & Summer Leagues as well as compete in different AAU tournaments.  Some travel is involved on weekends as well as a week away at Nationals. 

The fee  is $200.00 to participate in AAU plus a uniform fee if required.

Sign Ups are March 18, 2006 at 8am.

BASKETBALL TEAMS FOR INDIVIDUAL PLAYERS

Winter Basketball

Friars Club has basketball teams for boys and girls grades 2-8.  There are recreational and athletic teams.  Recreational teams are first come first serve and are from 2nd – 5th grades.  Once you are signed up in our program, Friars guarantees you a team to play on up through 5th grade.  Our Athletic teams are try out teams.  These teams go from 4th to 8th grade.  All of the winter teams practice twice a week for 1-˝ hours each.  Games are on the weekend.  The program runs from October through March. 

The fee is $75 membership fee and $40 uniform fee if uniform is needed.

Summer Basketball

Friars Club offers summer basketball teams for kid’s grades 1-8.  Games are in June & July.  Practices are once a week for 1 ˝ hour and games are one night during the week between 6-9. Season runs for 6 weeks.   Cost is $65 membership fee and $10 for uniform shirt.  Sign Ups are May 13, 2006 at 8am.

BASKETBALL LEAGUES FOR TEAMS

Friar’s sponsors a winter 3rd Grade & Under League.  Teams pay an entry fee of $200 plus referee fees of $20 per game and all teams will play a 10 game schedule on Saturday’s.  League play begins the weekend of December 11th.

BASKETBALL TOURNAMENTS

Friars host several Basketball Tournaments.

There is a Pre Season Basketball Tournament for 3rd Grade and Under December 1-3. Entry fee is $100 plus $20 per game referee fee, guaranteed 3 games.  Registration Deadline November 17th.

The Classic Tournament for 3rd Grade & Under on March 9- 12th.  Entry fee is $100 and includes referee fees.  Guaranteed 2 games.  Registration Deadline March 1. 

The City Championship Tournament for Grades 4, 5 & 6 is in January.  Entry Fee is $125 plus $20 per game referee fee.

KINDERGARTEN & FIRST GRADE BASKETBALL

Friars Club offers a 6-week basketball program for kids in Kindergarten & First Grade twice a year.  Spring session begins the 1st Tuesday in April at 6pm and the Fall session begins the 1st Tuesday in September at 6pm.  Teams are coached by high school teens that have been mentored and trained by Friars coaching staff.  There are 2 weeks of organizational practices and games begin on the 3rd week on Saturday mornings for 4 weeks. The fee to play is $60 plus $40 uniform fee if uniform is needed.

TEEN LEADERSHIP & DEVELOPMENT EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM

The Teen Leadership Development Program is a multi-purpose program.  This program is structured to hire teens train and mentor them to coach the K & 1st grade basketball teams.  The program teaches the teens good employment skills and great leadership skills.  The teens and K & 1st graders work on good sportsmanship, teamwork, and good people skills.  The teen coaches develop good leadership skills modeled to them through the staff and staff training.  Teens excelling in this program are offered other employment opportunities such as summer league coaches as well as summer camp counselors.  To sign up for this program stop in and fill out an employment application.  Program targets teens ages 14-17.  Applications accepted August 1st and March 1st at the Friars Club front desk.
